Querying multiple documents in AI Workbench works in a different way to a single document query. To learn more, go to: 8.16.0: AI Workbench FAQs.

To use the AI Workbench for querying multiple documents, follow the steps below:

  1. Select Workbench in the top toolbar.
  2. Choose the Canvas or Canvas section you want to query using the dropdown menu near the top-left corner.

  1. Select Query to the right of the Canvas dropdown list.
  2. Enter your query in the Question box and select Go or press Enter.

If your query doesn’t return expected results, clear the query history and rephrase the query.

Examples of queries (aka command/prompts/questions) could include:

  • Generate a list of events, in chronological order, that relate to (topic).
  • Summarize the witnesses opinion on (topic).
  • Prepare a list of potential defenses to the allegations in this document.
  • Generate a list of key themes/issues/topics mentioned in this document.
  • Identify what this document says about (topic).
  • Identify the testimony the witness gave about (topic).

Tips for querying using the AI Workbench:

  • Use commands rather than questions (example: Generate a list of people mentioned in this document).
  • Be specific - The more detailed your query, the more relevant the answer will be (example: How many times was Mrs Smith injured by her husband).
  • Use key terms - Providing important words or phrases from the document helps to provide focused answers (example: List the people involved in international anti-doping agencies).
  • Give some context - Adding some background can make your query clearer (example: Several cases have been brought against ADA Computers in the last 10 years. List the complainants).
  • Keep it simple - Clear and direct requests work best (example: List the events related to defamation).

The answers are each shown with a source relevancy score as a percentage.

Building on a command prompt: You can provide several prompts in a series in order to progressively refine the information you get back. For example, start with an open prompt such as Generate a list of people mentioned in this document/document set. Once the list is generated, you could then follow that up with Provide me with more details about a specific person from the list’s involvement or Based on the document/document set, who was the principle person involved from this list and why.

  1. If you hover over the relevancy score, you see the text extract:

  1. If you select the relevancy score, the right hand panel expands and shows the preview of the reference document at the relevant page with the text extract highlighted.

In the document preview, there are two tabs for Document and Analysis. These behave as per the Single document query.

  1. To clear the chat history, select Clear.

Saving queries

To save a query with prompts and responses to a .docx file (without the sources), select the 3-dot kebab menu in the top right corner and select Download (docx). The Word document is saved in the download location specified in your browser settings.

To save a query with prompts and responses to a project (without the sources), select the 3-dot kebab menu and select Add to project (docx). You see a message 1 file sent for processing. A document named chat.docx is generated and published to the Uploads folder.
