The Folder portal component allows users to share one or more document folders from the platform’s folder section with portal users, enabling controlled access to documents and related metadata.
The Folder component is used to expose existing folders and their contents to portal users in a structured, searchable table format. Administrators can control which folder is shared, what metadata columns are visible, and which actions portal users are permitted to perform, such as uploading documents or creating subfolders.
This component provides an organized way for portal users to view, search, and interact with shared documents while maintaining alignment with the folder structure in the platform.
Configuring Folders
Step 1: Prepare Folders in the Platform
Before configuring the Folder component:
- Ensure the required folder(s) are already created in the platform’s folder section.
- Confirm that the folder appears as an available option for sharing.
Important:
Only folders that already exist in the platform can be selected for display.
Example:
Create a folder named “Shared Case Files” to allow portal users to view and interact with documents.
Step 2: Add a Folder Component
- Open the Portal Builder.
- Add the Folder component to the desired portal page.
- Open the Properties tab to configure settings.

| Allow uploading | Allows portal users to upload documents directly into the shared folder. |
Example:
Configure a Folder component titled “Client Documents” with visible metadata such as document name, type, and date uploaded.
Step 4: Portal User View and Navigation
When displayed on the portal:
- The heading appears at the top.
- The folder name appears directly beneath the heading.
- A table lists documents stored in the shared folder.
- The Find option allows users to search documents using metadata.
- The More option enables advanced filtering for precise navigation.
The visible columns shown in the table correspond to the metadata selected during configuration.
Example:
Portal users filter documents by date or document type using the metadata search and filter tools.
Upload Functionality
If Allow uploading is enabled:
- An Upload button appears above the document table.
- Clicking Upload opens the Upload Document dialog box.

- The folder location is displayed at the top of the dialog.
- Users can:
- Drag and drop files
- Browse for files
- Enable Unpack zip archives when uploading multiple documents
Uploaded documents are stored directly in the shared folder.
Example:
A user uploads a ZIP file containing multiple exhibits and unpacks them into the shared folder automatically.
Add Folder Functionality
If Allow subfolder creation is enabled:
- An Add folder button appears.
- Clicking the button opens a Create Folder dialog box.
