The Text Block portal component allows users to create and format text content within the portal. Users can control text appearance, alignment, background styling, and optionally include a heading image to enhance visual presentation.

What is the Text Block?

The Text Block component is a flexible portal element designed for displaying written content such as introductions, instructions, announcements, or descriptions. Users can edit the text directly and customize its appearance using configuration options available in the Properties tab.

In addition to text formatting, users can enhance the component visually by selecting a heading image from images already uploaded to the Portal Builder. This allows the Text Block to function as both an informational and visual element within a portal page.

Step 1: Add a Text Block Component

  1. Open the Portal Builder.
  2. Select the Text Block component from the available portal components.
  3. Add it to the desired location on the page.

Example:
Use a Text Block at the top of a portal page to introduce users to the purpose of the site.

Step 2: Configure Text Properties

In the Properties tab, configure the following options:

OptionExplanation
HeadingEnter a heading (maximum 100 characters).
Heading colorSelect a color using the color wheel, hexadecimal, or RGB values.
Heading sizeSet the heading size between 12px and 72px.
TextEnter the main body content for the text block.
Text colorChoose a text color using the color wheel, hexadecimal, or RGB values.
Text sizeSet the text size between 12px and 72px.
Content alignmentAlign content to the left, center, or right.
Background colorChoose from theme background, white, site primary or secondary color, or define a custom color.
Drop shadowEnable to visually separate the text from the background and increase prominence.

Example:
A centered heading with a large font size and a subtle drop shadow can be used for section titles.

Step 3: Add a Heading Image

  1. Open the Heading image tab.
  2. Select an image from the Portal Builder using the Select image option.
  3. Use the search (Find) option or view images by name or gallery view.

You can also upload a new image by selecting Create new, then dragging and dropping an image or browsing your local files. You will be prompted to name the image during upload.

Important:
Creating an image directly within the text component (without uploading it properly to the Portal Builder) will not correctly add the image to the portal.

Example:
Add a banner image above a heading to visually distinguish a welcome message or announcement.

OptionsExplanationScreenshots
Select imageThe 'select image' dialogue box appears where users can browse the images that have already been uploaded to the portal builder or add new images from their PC. There is a 'Find' option to search for images in the portal builder that have been named. The 'T' icon in the right corner will provide a list of the named images to view the images only by their name. The icon to the right of this will display the images as a gallery of the images with any image names included below the associated image. Unlike the text view, the gallery view will display images that are unnamed as well as those that have been named.

It is possible to upload a new image to the portal builder through the 'Create new' button. Users will be prompted to drag and drop an image into the dialog box or browse their local files to select the intended image. When uploading a new image, the user will also be prompted to enter a name for the image.

Create imageUsers can create an image for the text by giving it a name, then drag and drop and image or browse for an image. However, this will not upload an image to the portal builder correctly.
